Happiness

What is Happiness?

What would make you happy? Lots of money, high paying job, a big house, expensive cars, beautiful/handsome spouse, dining in fancy restaurants. Or could these all be badges of success.

Is keeping up with the Jones really all that important? It is easy to get caught up in a "click", to want to be popular and run with the "popular" people. But if you sit down and think about all the work you have to do to keep up with that crowd... Really, is it worth the effort. I think people will be much happier if they live life within their means. If your friends rate you by how much they themselves have, then I would say it may be time to find new friends.

On the opposite side some people may try to escape their unhappiness through addictions like gambling, drugs and alcohol, possibly even something as simple as shopping.

living within your means... You may have to give up some extravagance to gain things that you really want. For instance to save for a cruise to the Bahammas, you may have to give up that cell phone and/or cable TV. Try keeping the old "clunker" car that runs well but looks old instead of buying a new one. Cook more meals at home, instead of eating out. Get a library card and do some reading instead of going to the movies. Live without using your credit card... only use the card only when you know you can pay the whole bill on the next payment bill. Paying interest on anything is just throwing away your money, giving free money to your creditor (Home and Car should be the only exception... and both of these should paid off as soon as possible). Being debt free is also a form of happyness that most people now adays never get to experience.

Being happy is a frame of mind. It's accepting what life has dealt you. If you have nothing you can still enjoy a walk through a park, you can still enjoy a beautiful sunset and/or sunrise. You may even find happiness in helping others, volunteer work at the local zoo, library, elderly home, church, other charity organizations. Doing positive things will only reflect positively back at you.

Success is getting what you want, happiness is liking what you get.
